Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has publicly accused former United States President donald Trump of being connected to the still-unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files.Musk alleges this is the primary reason certain documents remain sealed from public view.

The accusation follows the January 2024 release of a portion of the “Epstein files,” compiled during investigations into the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. Though,a number of documents remain under seal.

Musk’s relationship with Trump began positively, with Musk contributing considerably to Trump’s presidential campaign and leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). However, Musk resigned in May 2025 amid public criticism and a decline in Tesla’s stock value.

As his resignation, Musk has become increasingly critical of Trump, denouncing his fiscal policies and now alleging links to Epstein.

Understanding the Epstein Files

The “Epstein files” are a collection of legal and investigative documents related to the late Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex offenses. These documents include flight logs, contact lists, and court records detailing his activities and associations.

The initial release of these documents occurred in January 2024, stemming from a 2015 defamation lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell, a close associate of Epstein. Further releases followed in February 2025 by the Department of Justice and FBI, including previously leaked flight logs and contact facts.

Despite these releases, manny documents remain sealed, leading to public demands for full transparency. US Attorney General Pamela Bondi has stated that the FBI is reviewing thousands more documents, with future releases planned pending redactions to protect victims and ongoing investigations.

On Thursday, elon Musk accused President Donald Trump of being named in the unreleased Epstein files. In a post on X, Musk stated, “@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.” He offered no further evidence to support his claim.
