In Essen he was not a guest for the first time on Thursday, among other things he played in the sold-out Grugahalle in June 2018. But that was by no means his biggest concert in Essen. When the “Kelly Family” played two concerts in June 1996 in what was then the Georg Melches Stadium, a whopping 80,000 fans came to experience the extended musical family up close.

Katrin (40), Steffi (43) and Melanie (40) still remember the hype surrounding the Kellys. They themselves had their rooms “covered with posters”. The three friends made it to the front row on Thursday. “He’s really close enough to touch,” says Melanie.

The star was also happy about the proximity to the audience – and also about the fact that his music is not only liked by fans from the Kelly Family days, but also by young people who were there: “I’m really happy that my music seems to appeal to everyone appeals to generations.”

Michael Patrick Kelly is going on a “BOATS” tour in Germany with his album of the same name in autumn. He will be making two stops in the Ruhr area: on September 17 in Oberhausen (Rudolf Weber Arena) and on October 4 in Dortmund (Westfalenhalle).
