A man was arrested after allegedly harassing Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. The perpetrator was caught on camera allegedly groping and almost kissing President Sheinbaum.
Reported AFPWednesday (5/11/2025), the incident occurred on Tuesday (4/11) local time when Sheinbaum was greeting residents. At that time Sheinbaum was walking to an event near Mexico’s presidential palace.
Sheinbaum initially chatted with local residents. In the midst of that moment, the perpetrator then approached Sheinabum by embracing his shoulders. The man also appeared to touch other parts of Sheinbaum’s body while trying to kiss the Mexican President.

The perpetrator’s actions also went viral on social media. In the viral video, a presidential security officer can be seen immediately grabbing the perpetrator. Mexican security authorities said the perpetrator had now been arrested.
The head of Mexico’s Ministry of Women’s Empowerment–a department created by Sheinbaum–commented on the incident. The ministry strongly condemns the acts of harassment committed by the perpetrator.
“We condemn the actions experienced by our president today,” Minister Citlali Hernandez said in a post on X that also condemned what she called macho attitudes that normalize unwanted intrusions on women’s personal space and bodies.
This event highlighted latent problems in Mexico. About 70 percent of Mexican women aged 15 and over experience at least one incident of sexual harassment in their lifetime, according to data from UN Women.
