“I was in the bathroom and I heard them!” – Williams on the best atmosphere in 30 years as a pro

Mark Williams praised the crowd at Alexandra Palace after his 6-5 win over John Higgins at the Masters.

The three-time world champion will face Neil Robertson in the semifinals after the greats of the ’92 Class played a match of the highest level in front of a noisy but grateful audience

“It was just a big break,” Williams said. “I mean, I’ve never seen such a crowd. We got a standing ovation at the start that felt like it lasted 10 minutes, and then again before the final frame.

“The respect between me and John is huge, but when the crowd is like this it’s incredible.”

Williams and Higgins played a match worthy of their pre-match reception, taking it up to a decisive final frame. And Williams said the reception the couple received was so strong before frame 11 that he could hear it from the bathrooms.

“I was in the bathroom actually,” Williams said, when Eurosport expert Jimmy White asked him about the second standing ovation.

And I heard them cheer for John. And when I got in, it was just electric. You know, it’s probably the best vibe I’ve ever played in 30 years as a pro.

‘How to Play Federer at Wimbledon’ – Robertson on facing O’Sullivan at the Masters

Neil Robertson compared facing Ronnie O’Sullivan at the Masters with Roger Federer at Wimbledon.

Robertson got the better of O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals at Alexandra Palace on Thursday, which went some way to ease the pain of losing the World Grand Prix final to Rocket last month.

It was a notable effort, as O’Sullivan was roared by his adoring audience at Alexandra Palace.

Robertson was taken aback by O’Sullivan’s greeting from the crowd, but is aware that the seven-time winner is a Masters crowd favorite, similar to how the great Swiss tennis player is adored at SW19.

“It was great to be out there,” Robertson told Eurosport. “I thought my reaction was incredible, but when Ronnie came out he was on another level again.

“It’s like playing Federer at Wimbledon, you know you’ll have the majority of the crowd against you. It has nothing to do with me personally, but Ronnie is like no other player we’ve had in the game.

“You have to respect that, but you also have to be ready to go and play well when you get the chance and I felt like 90% of the game was great. There have been a mistake or two, but that’s to be expected when playing in a cauldron of fantastic fans. “

“Every victory over Ronnie O’Sullivan is to be celebrated” – Robertson concludes the victory with a bright red
