Marshmello’s Pop-Punk Past: Underbrook & Maskless Return

Marshmello starts pop-punk band Underbrook

That Marshmello has a soft spot for catchy melodies, has been with the latest since his radio hits Khalid, Anne-Marie or Bastille clear. But what happens now is more than just a genre change: it is a kind of musical revelation. Because behind Marshmello stuck Chris Comstockwho is now the front man of the new band Underbrook In the spotlight – with a sound that sounds more like Vans Warped tour than after Ultra Miami.

“This is not a nostalgia trip-I’ve always been essentially,” says Comstock About the project, which should work for many fans like a jump to a parallel universe. The first single “Heads Up” has been available since June 20 and convinces with driving drums, hymnic guitars and a chorus that could come directly from a mid-20000 mixtape. Who here on bands like New Found Glory, The Story So Far or Two Door Cinema Club thinks is in the right place, because Comstock names them openly as central influences.

Underbrook But is not a hobby chapel, but a serious scene project with an impressive line-up: next to Chris Comstock Among other things, on the microphone Hayden Tree (Bassist at Crown the Empire), Josh strock (Producer UA for Motionless in White, Machine Gun Kelly) and Danny Couture (Has with Bring Me the Horizon and 24kGoldn worked together). In addition, there are Jake Torrey (Producer for Linkin Park, Yungblud) and the drummer James Brownstein. You can quickly notice: Nothing is ironically broken or staged half-cooked here-this is not an EDM star that does pop-punk. This is pop punk, point.

“For me, underbrook means to channel the emotions and the chaos that have shaped me and give them a voice – through the music that I felt understood for the first time,” explains Chris Comstock. After his earlier collaborations with Yungblud or A Day to Remember Seems the step into a raw, honest band dynamics – without a mask – to be the logical, albeit surprising.

Not much is known about further publications, but the band’s Instagram channel is curious: studio recordings, Behind-the-scenes clips and the “get to know us” indicate that “Heads Up” was only the beginning. And who knows – maybe we’ll see Chris Comstock Soon not only on the largest EDM stages, but also in sweaty clubs with stick-and-poke tattoos and circle pits.

Underbrook is Marshmellos So far the most honest project – and one that should rather put his fan base to the test. But that is exactly the attraction.
