Marseille: State Denies ‘Collective Failure’ in Kessaci Killing

by Archynetys News Desk

A week after the assassination in broad daylight of young Mehdi Kessaci, 20, which left Marseille in a state of astonishment, the State moved in force on Thursday November 20 to France’s second city. Without any real strong announcement, without any major plan of struggle, but by displaying a desire for firmness and continuity in the fight against drug trafficking.

The visit of the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, and the Keeper of the Seals, Gérald Darmanin – pending Emmanuel Macron’s trip in December – seemed late in the eyes of many elected officials and citizens of Marseille. On the ministers’ agenda, separate meetings – meeting with prison staff at Baumettes prison for Mr. Darmanin, with the police forces for Mr. Nuñez – and common moments: a “work meeting” at the delegated police headquarters in the company of the national directors general of the police and the gendarmerie, a meeting with the main local elected officials. And an interview with the Kessaci family, during which the mother of Mehdi and Amine, a figure in the fight against drug trafficking, expressed all her pain in front of the two ministers. A prelude to the great white march organized on Saturday November 22, in Marseille.
