A 20-year-old man, identified as Todor Kostadinov, was brutally attacked following a minor traffic accident in Sofia on Sunday. The incident, wich occurred shortly after 5:00 PM at the intersection of Sitnyakovo Blvd and Geo Milev Blvd, has sparked outrage and renewed calls for greater awareness and stricter penalties regarding road rage.

From Fender-Bender to Brutal Assault

According to reports from the SDVR, the incident began when Kostadinov’s vehicle made slight contact with another car.Instead of exchanging facts or waiting for authorities, the other driver, a 42-year-old male, allegedly exited his vehicle and initiated a violent assault.

Witnesses reported that the aggressor smashed Kostadinov’s car window before repeatedly striking him in the head. The attack reportedly lasted for nearly three minutes.

All the blows were in the head – at least ten. I have a torn lip, a bump over your ear and pain in the jaw, Todor recounted, describing the severity of the assault.

Eyewitness Intervention and Legal Repercussions

Fortunately, several bystanders intervened, physically restraining the attacker and alerting emergency services via telephone number 112. The attacker was detained at the scene, and the case has been handed over to the prosecutor’s office for further investigation and potential charges.

Seeking justice and Addressing Road Rage

Iva Hayredinska, Kostadinov’s attorney, emphasized the unprovoked nature of the attack and vowed to pursue a just punishment for the aggressor. Authorities have collected witness statements and video footage of the incident as part of their investigation.

A Father’s plea: “Peopel Have to Learn to Count to Ten”

Nikolay Velchev,Kostadinov’s father, expressed his shock and disbelief at the violence. I can’t take this normal. For a small crash – to be beaten?! People have to learn to count to ten before they act, he stated, highlighting the need for greater emotional control and de-escalation techniques in stressful situations.
