One man died in a drowning accident on Friday morning, after he fell into the sea at Sortland.

This is confirmed by Marius Skålvold, operations manager in the Nordland police district, to TV 2.

The deceased is a man in his 50s, living in Møre og Romsdal.

In a press release, the police write that the man fell into the sea.

– People who were with the man immediately started work to get the man out of the sea. Life-saving first aid was started, but the man was unfortunately declared dead on the spot, the police write.

The accident happened when the man was about to board a boat.

The police were notified by witnesses that a person had fallen into the water at 3.47.

The remaining crew is now taken care of by the municipality’s crisis team.

On Friday, the police conducted investigations on the spot, including interrogation and review of video surveillance on the spot. Based on this, the police consider the incident a tragic accident, and will not take any further investigative steps.

The relatives have been notified.
