Tragic Stampede Followed by Fire Incident at Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj
A dark cloud loomed over the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 as a tragic stampede claimed 30 lives in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on January 29, 2025, as millions of pilgrims gathered for a holy dip on Mauni Amavasya, a significant Hindu festival. Just one day after the devastating stampede, a fire erupted at the festival grounds, adding another layer of concern.
Fire Incident at Mahakumbh Mela
On January 30, 2025, at around 2:00 pm, a massive fire broke out near the Jhunsi Chhatnag Ghat and Nageshwar Ghat in Sector 22 of the Mahakumbh festival area. According to reports from Hindustan, at least 12 tents were severely damaged in the blaze.
Pramod Sharma, an official from the UP Fire Department, was quoted by Hindustan, stating, “We got information about a fire in 15 tents today. Immediate action was taken to bring the fire under control.”
Kumbh Mela Police UP 2025, the official social media handle of the Uttar Pradesh Police at the festival venue, shared the following tweet: “On 30.01.2025 at around 02:00 pm, on receiving information about a fire in a private tent about 06 km away from the Kumbh Mela area, the @fireserviceup team immediately reached and controlled the fire. There has been no loss of life in the fire incident. Byte of CFO Shri Pramod Sharma in this regard.”
