Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 brings millions of devotees to Prayagraj for the sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam. After 144 years, this revered event is underway, culminating in Mauni Amavasya on January 29. The city gears up with stringent security measures and crowd management strategies to ensure a safe and seamless experience for pilgrims.

No-Vehicle Zone Ensures Smooth Operations

Since January 25, the Maha Kumbh Mela area has been established as a ‘no-vehicle zone.’ All visitors are required to park their vehicles outside the fairgrounds. This decision aims to minimize traffic congestion within the fair area, making movement easier for large crowds.

The journey from the parking area to the Sangam shore spans approximately 2 kilometers, a distance that can be daunting to many devotees. To alleviate this challenge, special arrangements have been put in place within the Mela grounds.

Handcarts Offer Relief for Devotees

Handcarts have become an essential means of transport within the Maha Kumbh Mela area. These cart services offer an affordable transportation option, charging about Rs 100 per person. Cart operators provide assistance with luggage, ensuring a smooth journey from the parking area to the Sangam.

According to Shiv Pujan, a handcart operator, “We help devotees reach the Sangam. The fare for each traveler is Rs 100. We also offer assistance with bags and belongings, providing utmost support throughout their journey.”

These transportation services not only ease the journey for pilgrims but also offer a source of income for many who might otherwise be unemployed. Cart owners now earn up to Rs 2,000 daily, significantly boosting their earnings during the Maha Kumbh Mela.

Preparing for Mauni Amavasya

The sacred event of Mauni Amavasya on January 29 draws millions of pilgrims to Prayagraj. As the weekend approaches, the city sees a surge in visitors from various parts of India and abroad. Railway stations, bus stops, and highways are bustling with devotees ready to partake in the holy dip.

On Friday and Saturday, over 1.25 crore pilgrims bathed in the Sangam. As the auspicious day approaches, officials anticipate an even larger crowd, with around 10 crore devotees expected to take part in the ritual.

Special arrangements have been implemented across all sectors of the Mela grounds to manage the vast crowds efficiently. No special protocols are enforced during the ‘Amrit Snan’ to prioritize the convenience of pilgrims.

All parking areas have been activated and equipped with essential facilities for the devotees. The traffic plan directs vehicles to the nearest parking zones and alternative areas to ensure smooth traffic flow.

More than 2,000 new signages have been installed to guide pilgrims accurately, ensuring smooth navigation through the large fairgrounds.
