Maciej Szczęsny was driving after alcohol. There is an indictment

Maciej Sz. he was arrested for roadside inspection on October 5 in the morning. The incident took place at al. Jerozolimskie. The 56-year-old athlete “blew” 0.6 per mille of alcohol. His driving license was retained.

“The suspect pleaded guilty to the alleged offense and provided explanations in the case. The District Prosecutor’s Office for Warszawa-Ochota in Warsaw on October 8, 2021 sent a bill of indictment to the court in this case,” said the prosecutor Aleksandra Skrzyniarz.

The offense under Art. 178a p. 1 of the Criminal Code is subject to a fine, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for up to 2 years.

In an interview with Interia Sz. commented on the whole matter: – I slept for about three hours after two “breweries”, but got into the car with the belief that I was “clean”. During the first test, I had 0.36 per mille, and with each subsequent test, this result dropped. (…) I would like to emphasize that I was detained by the police for a routine check, and not as a result of a traffic accident. I did not pose a threat to anyone – he emphasized.

He later admitted that he had made a bit of a mistake in his calculations about his blood alcohol content.

On October 6, in an interview with PAP Maciej Sz. he did not question the circumstances in which he was arrested. – I was taking my wife to work. The wife is a flight attendant and I was detained for inspection. Quite unexpectedly, my wife was called to work because she had the so-called telephone stand-by. We live very far from the airport. We have over 30 kilometers – said Sz.

The former Polish representative emphasized that on Monday – October 4 – in the evening he had dinner and “drank two beers”. “I went to sleep, and at 3.05 am the phone rang, calling my wife at 4.15 at Okecie. When I got in, I had no feeling that something was wrong” – he explained. “I am terribly ashamed” – said the former goalkeeper.

The case of the former footballer will be heard by the District Court for the Capital City of Of Warsaw.
