Macerata Jazz Summer 2022: three days (from 21 to 23 June), four locations, ten concerts and a masterclass with Bedetti

It starts again Macerata Jazz Summerthe three days, from 21 to 23 Junecreated by the association Musicamdo with the support of Ministry of Cultureof the Marche regionof Municipality of Macerata andUniversity of Macerataand in collaboration with the Massimo Urbani International Award, Jazz Network Walk, I-Jazz, New Jazz Generation e New IMAIE.

The concept of the event is now solidly anchored to the world of young jazz musicians, who know how to always inspire innovation and talent. He therefore continues his work in close synergy with the Massimo Urbani International Award of Camerinothe highest Italian competition for young jazz soloists which will inaugurate its XXVI edition in the days immediately following the Macerata review, on 24, 25 and 26 June.

In three days, ten concerts in four different locations and a catwalk of young jazz talents coming out of the Urbani Prize, to which is added some big national and international jazz of the caliber this year of the saxophonist Stefano Bedetti he was born in drummer Gianni Cazzola it’s a photographic exhibition dedicated to Paolo Piangiarelli which collects 50 shots of the photographer Carlo Pieroni, an artistic eye on the jazz of the territory and on the work of the great producer and talent scout from Macerata.

Each day opens at ore 19 with the traveling exhibition “The Taste of Jazz”: a concert during aperitif time in collaboration with True Italies e Ginetta Bar. Then continue at ore 21 in the splendid setting ofGarden of Thinkers.

«After the success recorded last year – he explains Daniele Massimi, President of Musicamdo and artistic director of the festival – we wanted to continue with this format capable of bringing together three aspects: quality music and promotion of young Italian jazz musicians, support for the local restaurant fabric, tourist incentive to experience the city of Macerata and discover it its places. This year – he concludes – to further enrich the proposal, we have included a training course, one masterclass held by the saxophonist Stefano Bedettiin collaboration with a company of excellence in our territory as it is Borgani».

THE PROGRAM. The review opens Tuesday 21 June at ore 19 and True Italies with the concert of Blackcat Manouche, the quartet composed of Giammarco Polini (acoustic guitar) Luca Catena (violin), Claudio Mangialardi (double bass) and Mauro Cimarra (drums) which offers a music of contamination between American jazz of the ’30s, the Waltz French Musette and the Gypsy tradition with many references to Django Reinhardt. At ore 21 move to the courtyard-amphitheater of theGarden of Thinkers with a double set: opens Francesco Zampini Quintet, training of the young guitarist from Prato with active collaboration with the likes of Fabrizio Bosso, Scott Hamilton, Alessandro Lanzoni, Emanuele Cisi, Giovanni Falzone, Nico Gori, Ares Tavolazzi, and many others; to follow the quartet of Sophia Tomellerisaxophonist winner of the Massimo Urbani International Award in 2020.

Wednesday 22 the jazz aperitif is at home in the evocative courtyard of Palazzo Floriani-Carradori in True Italies. Here, at ore 19, Anna Laura Alvear Calderón performs in duo, guitar and voice, with Christian Mascetta. The evening then continues at theGarden of Thinkers starting from ore 21 with another double set. In the opening the quintet Page & the Giraffestraining of the multifaceted trombonist Matteo Paggi, finalist of the Urbani 2022 Prize and, to follow, the project “Three generation quartet” by Gianni Cazzolaone of the most prolific and appreciated drummers of the Italian jazz scene who in his long career has collaborated with prominent names such as Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Tommy Flanagan, Gerry Mulligan, Dexter Gordon, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Sarah Vaughan, Helen Merrill and many others, participating in numerous international concerts and festivals.

The review closes Thursday 23 al Ginetta Bar in Largo Affede, with the last aperitif of ore 19 in the company of the project JBeat-Marinelli a journey through the metropolitan atmosphere of the beatbox and the piano. All ‘Garden of Thinkers still music from ore 21 with the solo piano of Tommaso Perazzo, winner of the Massimo Urbani International Award in 2018 and, to follow, the saxophonist’s trio Stefano Bedetti with Dario Deidda on double bass and Fabrizio Sferra on drums.
