Liszt Festival 2025: A Symphony of Innovation and Tradition

A Grand Opening: Beethoven, Liszt, and the power of Sound

The Liszt Festival, scheduled from October 9th to 19th, 2025, promises an enchanting autumn experience with a program designed to captivate classical music enthusiasts. The opening concert sets the stage for a spectacular event, featuring the esteemed Viennese Chamber Orchestra, led by the distinguished Francisco Navarro Lara, alongside artist-in-Residence Kateryna Titova. The performance will include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, a cornerstone of classical repertoire, paired with Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the evocative sound poem prometheus, ensuring an unforgettable commencement to the festival.

Blending the Classical with the Contemporary

The K+K ensemble, known for its innovative approach under the direction of Kirill Kobantschenko, a primary violinist from the Vienna Philharmonic and a DJ, will breathe new life into familiar works. This ensemble masterfully blends Viennese classical traditions with modern sonic elements, offering a fresh perspective on timeless compositions. Adding to the festival’s pianistic brilliance, Kristina Miller and Suzana Bartal will each dedicate an evening to exploring the depths of Liszt’s piano artistry. furthermore, the Vienna Academy Orchestra, under the baton of Martin Haselböck, will highlight Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsodies, specifically focusing on the first in the series. These rhapsodies, inspired by Hungarian folk music, showcase Liszt’s ability to blend virtuosic piano writing with nationalistic fervor.

Musical Dialogues and Monumental Symphonies

The Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, guided by the internationally renowned cellist István Várdai, will engage in a compelling musical dialog with the legendary Sárkzy Trio. This collaboration promises a rich tapestry of sound, weaving together the distinct voices of each ensemble. A song evening featuring the celebrated Austrian soprano Miriam Kutrowatz and pianist Andreas fröschl will present works by Liszt, Haydn, and Richard Strauss, offering a diverse and captivating vocal performance. The festival will culminate in a grand finale: Liszt’s monumental Dante Symphony, interpreted by the Vienna Academy Orchestra, again under Martin Haselböck, and the world-famous Vienna Boys Choir. This powerful combination of orchestral and choral forces will provide a fittingly epic conclusion to the Liszt Festival 2025.
