Reinhard Biehl,Malteser District Officer
Biehl emphasized the importance of the Lions Clubs’ multi-year pledge, stating it would considerably bolster the clinic’s ability to serve its patients. This type of sustained support is critical for organizations providing free healthcare, especially considering the rising costs of medical supplies and services. For example, according to a 2024 report by the German Federal Statistical office, healthcare costs have risen by approximately 3% annually over the past five years, placing increased strain on charitable healthcare providers.
Beyond Consultations: addressing Complete healthcare Needs
While doctors and nurses volunteer their time, the clinic incurs expenses for medications, specialist examinations, and prenatal care. Dr. Hoferichter and Mühlhahn highlighted that donations are essential to covering these costs, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care. This holistic approach is notably vital for vulnerable populations who may face barriers to accessing other healthcare resources.
