Pressure has piled on Paris Saint Germain sporting director Leonardo following Chelsea‘s triumph in the Champions League final against Manchester City.
The Brazilian is on the receiving end of criticism following his decision to part ways with Thomas Tuchel last December.
A Chelsea side led by Tuchel and former centre-back Thiago Silva went all the way to the Champions League trophy, one which remains PSG’s primary goal since the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) became the club’s majority shareholders in 2011.
Leonardo was the man behind glamorous signings such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Beckham and Edinson Cavani, but also was the one to decide against renewing Thiago Silva‘s contract last summer.
According to French press, Leonardo‘s relationship with Mauricio Pochettino has not been ideal, with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy being willing to bring the Argentine back to England.
Pochettino is expected to stay at PSG, but Leonardo’s handling of Kylian Mbappe‘s contract renewal case has not been ideal either, despite having managed to tie Neymar down to a new deal.
Signings Danilo Pereira and Rafinha Alcantara have not impressed, while Moise kean has pleased the club with his performances and they are considering making his stay permanent.
Meanwhile, PSG are in talks to sign Eduardo Camavinga from Stade Rennais and Achraf Hakimi from Inter to replace another Leonardo bet, Alessandro Florenzi, who is expected to depart this summer.
Fans were not satisfied by Leonardo’s decision to part ways with Cavani and sign Mauro Icardi to replace the Uruguay international last summer.
The former Inter striker has not lived up to expectations, having scored 13 goals in 28 games.
