Lidl Opens New Store in Limerick’s Ballysimon Area

This morning, Lidl Ireland unveiled its latest retail presence with the opening of a store in Ballysimon, Limerick. Excited crowds gathered from early on, eager to be among the first customers to explore the aisles of the new establishment.

Ladies Gaelic Football Star Yvonne Lee Joins in celebrations

Local hero Yvonne Lee, a prominent figure in Limerick Ladies Gaelic Football, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The occasion marked the arrival of Lidl’s sixth store in County Limerick and elevated Lidl’s retail presence in Ireland to 183 locations.

Festivities and Promotions Abound on Opening Day

To commemorate the opening, a host of special promotions and activities were organized.queues of shoppers were rewarded with the opportunity to participate in a lucky dip, potentially winning €1,000 worth of shopping vouchers. Samples of in-store products were also available for those attending.

Charitable Contributions Highlight Company Responsibility

Representatives from local charity Milford Hospice were on hand to accept a €1,000 donation in the form of Lidl vouchers from the store’s team. Additionally, members of the local Ladies Gaelic Football club, Claughaun GAA, received sponsored training jerseys, further emphasizing Lidl’s commitment to supporting women’s sports.

New Major Retail Offering in Ballysimon

Set on Groody Road, adjacent to Limerick Educate Together Secondary School and the new Bons Secours Hospital site, the Ballysimon store marks the area’s first major retail venture. The opening has created 30 new permanent jobs within the community.

The Ballysimon store adheres to Lidl’s ‘concept’ design, featuring wide aisles, self-service checkouts, two Deposit Return Scheme machines, and a café area serving freshly baked goods. The external layout boasts regenerative landscaping and an ample car park with designated electric vehicle charging stations.

The store incorporates numerous sustainable design elements. Its ISO 50001-certified energy management system, efficient energy technologies, electric vehicle charging stations, and rooftop solar panels exemplify Lidl’s commitment to environmental responsibility. These measures align with the retailer’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
