The middle of December this year pleased domestic e-sports enthusiasts with a grand event – the regular final tournament of the Latvian E-Sports League (EL) season ended. As Latvijas Sabiedriskie Mediji informs, this time the four strongest teams competed for the title of Latvian Premier League champions in the prestigious “Counter-Strike 2” discipline, demonstrating a truly breathtaking performance. This year, the winners’ cup was won by a newly formed team, which in a short time was able to combine excellent individual skill, iron discipline and perfect teamwork. This season has been special with an unprecedented level of competition and a record number of participants, confirming the rapid growth of Latvian e-sports.
The intense final and the new champions
In the final games, which took place in the Riga e-sports club “Cyber Empire”, the spectators could enjoy an exciting duel between the leaders of the regular season – “HAVENs” from Liepāja and “OlyBet SB” from Riga. The “OlyBet SB” team celebrated a 2:1 victory in the decisive three-card series. This success is especially important for the new champions, which include players like hexoq, ChipaaN, discplex, yaankz and Frip. Roberts “Frip” Poliakovs, demonstrating an excellent performance, also won the title of the most valuable player of the regular season with an impressive rating of 1.37. “OlyBet SB” players Ralfs Čipans and Andrejs Nadeikins emphasized that this title is not only an achievement, but also an important incentive for further motivation and strengthening of confidence.
Record number of participants and development of the industry
This year’s E-Sports League season featured a record-breaking 64 teams participating in the Counter-Strike 2 competition, divided into five divisions of varying levels. This impressive number clearly indicates the continuous development of the Latvian e-sports environment and the growing interest from both players and organizers. “Kleverr E-sports association”, the organizers of this important event, has successfully completed its fifth anniversary season, showing its ability to adapt and provide a professional competition environment. The organizers also had to face challenges this season, for example, in relation to the organization of in-person events and broadcasts, but overall the future of the league looks very promising. The teams are becoming more and more professional, and the interest in participating in the competition continues to grow. There was no lack of tension not only in the Latvian Super League, but also in the lower divisions, as teams fought both for keeping their place and for the opportunity to move up in the next season.
First League triumph and prospects
In the final of the first league, the team “sunshine” won, securing a place in the next season’s super league. On the other hand, “EVOLUPE” left the top division. In the mid-season rematch, which took place in mid-December, the first league vice-champion “GARAGE” defeated the seventh place winner of the superleague “LusHi”, returning to the elite group. In the view of the organizers, the content and visual presentation of this year’s games were significantly improved, indicating a more modern approach. Although the total number of views has remained stable, there has been an increase in viewer engagement on social media. This confirms that Latvian e-sports is not only developing, but also becoming more and more visible and engaging for a wider audience, competing with other popular sports industries in terms of content.
