A judge in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul has ordered the arrest of a man who is suspected of being ‘the brain’ behind the thwarted attack at the Lady Gaga concert (39) in Rio de Janeiro. The man had previously been arrested for involvement in the plan, but released for bail.
Brazilian media write that the man, who was not mentioned by the judge by name, did not show up at the court on Monday, on which the judge had him arrested again. He is now stuck on suspicion of terrorism. He is one of the two people who have been arrested for making the plans. The other is a minor person.
The police of Rio de Janeiro announced on Monday that they were convinced that the suspects were aiming at the Brazilian LGBTI community. “They clearly indicated an attack during the concert of singer Lady Gaga, with the explicit motive hatred against sexual orientation, in other words against the LGBTI community,” said Felipe Cury of the police of Rio de Janeiro. Lady Gaga is known for her support to the LGBTI community.
