KSV Hessen has the top five within reach in the eternal ranking of the regional football league. The Kassel Löwen are currently tenth. SC Neukirchen and KSV Baunatal are also listed.
Kassel / Baunatal / Neukirchen – The regional football league has already been a lot in Germany. Sometimes the second highest, sometimes the third highest, currently it is the fourth-highest division. Founded in 1963, it was divided into five seasons until 1974 and was located directly under the Bundesliga. After the second division reform and the introduction of a two-tier 2nd Bundesliga in 1974, it was initially dissolved and finally reintroduced as the third-highest division for the 1994/1995 season.
Up to 2000 there were four seasons – North, Northeast, South and West / Southwest. Then only the regional leagues south and north. From the 2008/2009 season, the double-track and third-class regional league was replaced by the fourth-class regional leagues north, west and south. Since 2012, the division into five seasons – North, Northeast, Southwest, West and Bavaria – is still valid today.
KSV Hessen Kassel is ranked tenth in the regional league table and this season has the chance to jump a few ranks up. Our graphic shows the top ten, former two-point wins have been converted into the three-point rating. We look at some special features of the ranking.
The Bundesliga clubs
Five current Bundesliga teams are among the top 100 regional leagues of all time. The best of them is FC Augsburg, which was represented for a total of 13 seasons, playing 446 games and collecting 639 points. That is enough for 54th place. VfL Wolfsburg follows with eleven seasons, 364 games and 619 points in 58th place. Union Berlin was there for ten seasons in the regional league (348 games / 595 points / 63rd place). The 1st FSV Mainz 05 follows in 69th place (eleven seasons / 342 games / 557 points). Arminia Bielefeld finished in 74th place with 344 games and 543 points in ten years.
From the region
By far the best team from the region in the list is KSV Hessen, who will be in their 28th season in one of the regional leagues in the coming season after 1963 – 74, 1994 – 98 and 2006 – 2018. Only VfB Lübeck have more , Rot-Weiss Essen and Eintracht Trier. The KSV played 900 games during this period – 364 won and 306 lost. His players have scored 1482 goals and conceded 1343. That was enough for 1313 points.
The lions will surely catch up with Eintracht Trier this season, which is currently not represented. Only four points are missing. This also applies to the Stuttgart Kickers. In addition, the Kassel will probably leave the two current second division teams Holstein Kiel (1336 points) and VfL Osnabrück (1338) behind. In between are the Kickers Offenbach, who are entering their 23rd season and have collected 1323 points. If the KSV has a much better season than Offenbach, fifth place is possible in the end.
The 1st SC Göttingen 05, which broke up in 2003, is ranked 43rd in the ranking. The Göttingen team was represented for 14 years, contested 466 games and scored 716 points. This is followed by a big jump to place 208 – to SC Neukirchen. The current top division club from Schwalm-Eder-Kreis was there for four years from 1995 to 1999, played in 134 games and collected 151 points. The conclusion from a regional perspective is made by KSV Baunatal, who is two years old (2013 to 2015), 68 games and 41 points in the statistics.
