KPK Questions Rini Soemarno in Corruption Probe

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has scheduled an interrogation with former Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Rini Soemarno, today. This questioning comes as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged corruption involving the gas sales cooperation between PT Pertamina Gas Negara (PGN) and PT Inti Alasindo Energi (IAE).

KPK’s Official Statement

KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto announced that Rini Soemarno is being questioned as a witness. She is also scheduled to be interrogated in her capacity as a PGN employee. The examination process will take place at the Merah Putih Building of the KPK in South Jakarta.

Scope of the Investigation

On May 13, 2024, KPK initiated an investigation into alleged corruption at PGN during the 2018-2020 fiscal year. This move was prompted by the audit findings from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK). The investigation centers around the gas trading process between PGN and PT Isar Gas (IG), which reportedly resulted in significant financial losses to the state amounting to hundreds of billions rupiah.

Co-Defendant in the Inquiry

In addition to Rini Soemarno, KPK also plans to question another individual, PGN employee Helmy Setiawan. Both witnesses’ testimonies will play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation.
