The summer holidays start next Thursday. What’s going on in terms of concerts in Konstanz?
Dieter Evil: There is a lot to do in Konstanz. The summer offers lots of great concerts and events such as the open-air theater, the cultural summer in the Neuwerk or our picnic concerts in the Lake Constance stadium from August 25th to September 5th.
XhaviHyseni: The program of the picnic concerts reflects Dieter Bös and me, i.e. the different generations. We have put together a well-mixed program. It sounds like an empty phrase – but after the hard time it should appeal to everyone. We can see from the positive response and the demand for tickets that we are on the right track.
Who is there?
Bad: There are really good names among them: Campino von den Toten Hosen, Milky Chance, Von Wegen Lisbeth, Mittermeier, Rea Garvey, Provinz, Meute and Joris – a mix of young, up-and-coming bands and old hands.
Hyseni: All concerts are of course very popular, some concerts are already sold out. That’s why we organized additional concerts at 3 p.m. on the same day. All of this takes place in a corona-compliant manner with a comprehensive hygiene concept and a safety concept. As capacity is limited, we organized the additional shows.
Are people more cautious or are they thirsty for concerts?
Bad: We feel both. With some bands or artists they are cautious and cautious and cannot believe it is starting again. Then at Von Wegen Lisbeth or Milky Chance there was an incredible run on the tickets. Then you realize: It was necessary to play such concerts again.
Are you afraid of other variants of the virus?
Hyseni: As the proportion of those vaccinated increases, the risk is likely to decrease. I don’t think our hospitals will be overloaded because of a Delta variant.
Bad: We are not medical professionals or virologists. But the great danger disappears with the vaccinations that patients no longer have space in the intensive care units. Hopefully this oppressive and frightening situation from last autumn and winter will disappear.
How did you cope with the crisis?
Evil: Heavy. You work in the blue all the time. You have projects for 2022 and you are in a state of hope and fear. The picnic concerts are a start to regain a foothold and create something tangible for artists and audiences. Now it will be something for people, and that brings a little bit of normality back to life in Constance. We have had great experiences in the Bodenseestadion.
Hyseni: It was very painful. We had to reverse some shows that were sold out. Our crisis started with that. Reversing a stadium with 25,000 sold tickets for the Toten Hosen like in September 2020 – that’s tough. It all started with that. The picnic concerts are only possible because everyone involved is doing without something. Really everyone: stars, organizers, stage builders or other contributors. Everyone renounces money. Rea Garvey in front of 1000 visitors with such an entrance fee is not possible under normal circumstances. We just want to get back into the game.
Rea Garvey has a special relationship with Konstanz, where he performed in the Irish pub in the 1990s, when he was still an unknown musician.
Bad: Yes, that was the good time with him. That’s why he still has positive relationships with and with Konstanz. He loves coming here and is really looking forward to the city and the people.
In addition to the stars, local greats will bring you to the picnic concerts.
Bad: It’s going to be a lot of fun. Jürgen Waidele, Alex Behning, Davide Martello, Acoustical South, Yasin Amin or Palmenhaus-Park will play. We do that together with the people from Kula. It starts at noon on September 4th and lasts all day. Every visitor pays as much as he wants from five euros. It will be a really great family event.
What exactly are the corona conditions like?
Hyseni: The three Gs as usual: vaccinated, recovered or tested. As for the wearing of masks, we still have to wait for negotiations with the city. We’ll have to wait to see what rules will apply then. We can only talk for ten days and like everyone else we have to drive on sight.
