Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal has taken a clear stance in the lead-up to Delhi’s state elections. During a campaign rally in Jangpura, Kejriwal urged voters to choose AAP for zero electricity bills and BJP for hefty power charges.
“All those who want zero electricity bill, vote for AAP, and all those who want hefty sums as electricity bills can vote for BJP. BJP has announced that they will end subsidies on electricity once they form government,” Kejriwal declared. He further emphasized, “They are against free electricity.”
Manish Sisodia Takes the Reins in Jangpura
Manish Sisodia, who has represented Patparganj since 2013, is now contesting from Jangpura. Sisodia’s strong connection with Jangpura residents is based on a decade of consistent support and development efforts.
“If I become MLA, I’ll sit with Arvind Kejriwal as a cabinet member and deputy CM. It’s not only me but the people of Jangpura who will become the deputy CM,” Sisodia declared with confidence. “A single call from anyone in Jangpura to any government office will be enough to resolve any issue. No government employee will dare ignore such a call.”
Historical Election Performance
Sisodia’s electoral success in Patparganj was notable. He narrowly won by a margin of 3,207 votes against BJP’s Ravinder Singh Negi in the 2020 elections. In 2015, he defeated BJP’s Vinod Kumar Binny by a significant margin of 28,761 votes. His victory in 2013 was also decisive, with a victory margin of 11,476 votes against BJP’s Nakul Bhardwaj.
Contender Analysis
The race in Jangpura is fiercely contested. The BJP has fielded Tarvinder Singh Marwah, while the Congress has nominated former municipal leader Farhad Suri. AAP aims to secure a third consecutive term in power, while BJP strives to regain control after 26 years. Congress, meanwhile, is making efforts to maintain its relevance in the national capital.
Election Date and Expectations
The election for 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly is set to take place on February 5, with the vote count expected on February 8. These elections will shape the future of governance and development in Delhi, with each party vying for voter support through promises and programs.
Conclusion: People’s Choice
Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia’s campaign in Jangpura underscores the stark difference in their party’s policies. Kejriwal’s promise of zero electricity bills is a significant selling point in a densely populated city like Delhi. As the election nears, voters will need to weigh the merits of each party’s proposals and leadership capabilities.
For AAP supporters and those benefiting from the current subsidies, the choice is clear. However, for those who might prefer more fiscal responsibility from the BJP or who believe in Congress’ alternative vision, they too have valid options. The outcome will reflect the collective voice of the people of Delhi.
