The Kobudo martial arts association in Friedberg Wetterau is excited to announce the commencement of several ten-part courses designed to introduce participants to the captivating world of traditional martial arts. These courses offer a unique chance to delve into disciplines such as okinawan karate, the art of the samurai sword (Kenjutsu), and traditional Okinawan weapons training.
okinawan Karate: A Journey of Discipline and Self-Discovery
Starting Friday, May 2nd, a Shorin-Ryu style karate course will be held from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the sports hall of the Johann-Philipp-Reis School (parking at Im Wingert). This course is designed to introduce participants to the core principles of traditional Okinawan karate. The association extends a warm invitation to individuals aged 40 and above to experience the profound discipline and self-discovery that karate offers. This taster course provides an excellent introduction to the art.
Kenjutsu: Mastering the Samurai Sword
For those fascinated incidentally speaking of the samurai,a Kenjutsu course begins on Wednesday,April 30th,from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the sports hall of the Wartberg School (Friedensstraße 17,parking at Im Wingert). Participants will learn the fundamentals of wielding the wooden samurai sword, from proper stance and elegant movements to impressive katas. No prior experience is necessary, making it accessible to individuals of all ages. Practice swords are available for loan or purchase through the association.

Okinawan Weapons Training: Hanbo and Bo
Young people and adults aged 15 and over can learn the art of traditional weapons fighting with short and long sticks. This course focuses on the Hanbo (short stick) and Bo (long stick), traditional farming tools from Okinawa repurposed as weapons. Participants will learn defensive and offensive techniques, both individually and with a partner, enhancing fitness, concentration, and coordination. While prior knowledge of Shotokan karate is beneficial, it is indeed not mandatory. The course will take place on Fridays, starting May 2nd, from 8:00 PM to 9:15 PM in the Wartberg School’s sports hall. Sticks are available for loan.

Essential Information for All Courses
Participants in all courses are advised to wear agreeable sports clothing or,if available,a karate suit. Training is typically conducted barefoot.
