Jokowi Mentions IKN Is Government’s Responsibility as Budget Block Continues

by drbyos

Archynetys News, Solo – Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, often referred to as Jokowi, has taken a low-key approach regarding the budget for the New Capital (IKN) project. This significant infrastructure initiative has been put on hold following a directive from President Prabowo Subianto aimed at enhancing fiscal efficiency.

Jokowi Maintains a Hands-Off Stance

When queried about the IKN budget, Jokowi focused on maintaining a non-interfering role in government affairs. “That (IKN) is the government’s affair,” he emphasized, indicating his preference to leave such matters to the current administration.

Public Works Minister Weighs In on Efficiency Measures

Contrary to Jokowi’s restrained stance, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo provided a more detailed response to the media. He addressed the controversy at Pura Mangkunegaran in Solo, asserting that the overall 2025 budget allocated to his ministry remains untouched.

Hanggodo interpreted President Prabowo’s decision as part of a broader strategy to promote efficiency across all government budgets. “This is one of President Prabowo’s ways to show all his ministers that it’s a way to be efficient,” he explained.

Efficiency Policy extends Beyond IKN

The minister further clarified that the importance of fiscal discipline extends beyond the IKN project. “Efficiency is not only for IKN but for all budgets,” he stated. His ministry, he said, is also adhering to these principles, emphasizing the overarching goal of efficiency in government spending.

“In my ministry (PU), we are also being efficient. Ultimately, that’s efficiency,” Hanggodo continued, reinforcing the message that the policy aims for improved budget management across the board.
