Jokowi Criticizes Prabowo’s Dominance and Criticism-Free Presidency
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – In a notable speech, former President Joko Widodo, commonly referred to as Jokowi, criticized his current counterpart, President Prabowo Subianto. Highlighting Prabowo’s significant influence, Jokowi commented that no one dares to voice criticism of the current president.
Jokowi’s Remarks on Prabowo’s Strength
“Look at all the current presidents in the world, there is none as powerful as Bapak Prabowo. He is so dominant that to this day, I haven’t seen anyone dare to criticize him,” Jokowi said, delivering his remarks at the 17th anniversary of the Gerindra party in Sentul, Bogor, West Java.
Approval Ratings and Support
Jokowi acknowledged Prabowo’s strength through his impressive approval ratings. Recalling his own presidency in 2014, Jokowi noted his initial approval rating of 62 percent, which dropped to 52 percent due to fuel price hikes.
“In contrast, Pak Prabowo’s approval rating in his first 100 days in office stands at 80.9 percent,” Jokowi emphasized. He further pointed out that the current president enjoys parliamentary support exceeding 80 percent. This, according to Jokowi, underscores Prabowo’s robust support from both the public and legislative bodies.
The Impact of Prabowo’s Strength
Jokowi suggested that Prabowo’s overwhelming influence has led to a culture of loyalty and deference. He seemed to imply that any issues or shortcomings are unfairly attributed to him instead of being addressed by the current administration.
“Because of President Prabowo Subianto’s strength, every little thing defaults to being Jokowi’s fault,” Jokowi stated, indicating a sentiment of frustration and mistrust.
The Event Details
Jokowi attended the Gerindra anniversary event at Sentul City International Convention Center on February 15, 2025, sitting beside President Prabowo. The gathering also featured other notable figures, including former presidents and vice presidents Tri Sutrisno and Jusuf Kalla.
