Jim Leonhard: Bills Hire Former Player to Lead Defense

by Archynetys Sports Desk

Former Buffalo Bills player Jim Leonhard is expected to be hired as the team’s defensive coordinator, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday.

The hire will mark a change in direction on defense following the firing of Sean McDermott, who led the Bills and the team’s defense for nine seasons.

Leonhard, 43, is currently the defensive passing game coordinator and assistant coach for the Denver Broncos. This year, the Broncos’ defense had 68 sacks, four short of the single-season record (72 by the Chicago Bears in 1984), and allowed the second-fewest total yards per game (278.2).

Leonhard joined the Broncos in 2024 as the team’s defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach.
