Jersey Minister of Education Jeremy Mason arrested

Jersey’s Minister of Education and Children has been arrested.

MP Jeremy Mason was relieved of his ministerial duties by the Chief Minister due to the investigation.

Police have confirmed that a 33-year-old man was previously arrested at a private address in Jersey and questioned at St Helier Police Headquarters on what is meant by “serious” charges.

He has now been released on bail pending further investigation.

The Chief Minister sent a statement to all member states urging them not to speculate on what happened on social media. A similar statement was also sent to all schools.

The Chief Minister ruled that Deputy Mason was currently unable to perform his ministerial duties. For this reason, the Chief Minister has removed these functions of the Deputy Minister and will retain the portfolio of children and education until further notice. In order to respect the privacy of all interested parties, no further details will be shared at this stage.
