Government Aims to Reduce Transportation Costs for Upcoming Eid al-Fitr Travel Season
In an effort to make transportation more affordable, the Indonesian government is working on strategies to ease the burden on travelers during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr homecoming season.
Government Initiatives for Affordable Travel
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring the Eid travel experience is safe, easy, and cost-effective. During a meeting at the Presidential Palace, Yudhoyono highlighted the importance of addressing the travel needs of the public, especially during significant religious holidays.
Collaborative Effort for Policy Implementation
President Prabowo Subianto instructed that all policies should prioritize public convenience and well-being. Yudhoyono reported that discussions between his department, the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and the Ministry of Finance are ongoing. These collaborations aim to finalize measures that will make travel tickets more affordable during the Eid season.
Infrastructure Improvements
Beyond price reductions, the government is also focused on enhancing transportation infrastructure. Initiatives include better road conditions, improved sea routes, more reliable air services, and upgraded rail systems to accommodate the expected surge in travelers.
Public Deliberation and Patience
Yudhoyono acknowledged that while planning is underway, no final decisions have been announced yet. He emphasized the need for more time to finalize the policies, urging the public to be patient. The minister reassured that once all calculations and consultations are complete, the government will make an official announcement.
