Israeli Forces Report Killing Hamas Commander Mohammed Al-Sinwar

The Israeli army announced that Mohammed Al-Sinwar, a Hamas commander, was killed in a joint operation with the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) in the southern region. The announcement followed the identification of al-Sinwar’s body, which was found underground beneath the European Hospital in Khan Yunis.
According to the statement, “In an operation carried out by the Israeli army and the public security apparatus (the shin Bet) in the southern region, and after completing the process of identifying the body, it was confirmed that the body of Mohammed Al-Sinwar was found under the ground under the European Hospital in Khan Yunis.”
The statement added that “al-Sinwar was assassinated with the commander of the Rafah Brigade, Muhammad Shabana, in a joint operation for the Israeli army and the Public Security Agency (Shin Bet) on may 13, 2025, while they were in the underground command and control complex where the army forces are currently working.”
The statement also noted, “During the underground inspection operations, items belonging to Al-Sinwar and Shabana were found, in addition to additional intelligence information provided for further investigation (…) during the operation, additional bodies were found, and their identities are being investigated.”

Netanyahu Confirms Al-Sinwar’s Death
On May 28, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the army had assassinated Al-Sinwar, who is the younger brother of Yahya Al-Sinwar, the former head of Hamas’ political bureau. Yahya Al-Sinwar was previously killed by Israeli forces during the conflict in Gaza.
Netanyahu stated in a speech to the Knesset, “We took the terrorists out of our land, strongly we entered the Gaza Strip and spent tens of thousands of terrorists, and we spent … Mohammed Al -Sinwar.”
