Insect hotels for willebadessen – pure nature for everyone and every animal

Vanessa Michels, branch manager of the Vereinigte Volksbank in Willebadessen, emphasizes the importance of the social and ecological commitment of the cooperative bank. After all, future generations should also be able to enjoy beautiful and healthy nature. Under the motto: “We create something special thanks to our members!”, we have promised an insect hotel for every tenth new member. When selecting suitable locations, we worked with the cities.

Mayor Norbert Hofnagel and branch manager Vanessa Michels opened the new insect hotels in Willebadessen. Specifically, there are two locations: the butterfly trail and the parking lot at the game reserve. The hotels are a real eye-catcher with their V-shape: 50 cm tall and filled with bamboo canes, which offer insects a place to nest, hibernate and hide. “The native insects have been heavily affected in recent decades. More insects mean an enrichment for the plant world. The children experience “pure nature” and up close! The nature park attracts many nature lovers every year the butterfly trail,” says Norbert Hofnagel, Mayor of the City of Willebadessen, and is pleased about the great cooperation between the city and the bank. The locations for the insect hotels could not have been chosen better. The area around Willebadessen offers numerous interesting things such as the Karlsschanze, rugged sandstone cliffs and a beech forest that extends over 78 hectares and is a designated bird sanctuary. The Hirschstein, the Königsblick, the Kuhkampe, the “Nethe” protected area, the Willebadessen limestone drifts and the Bockskopf spring area show the uniqueness of the region – enough reasons for short stays and a good opportunity to visit the new insect hotels.
