Thomas (Tom) Flannery — known fondly as “Hilltop” to many, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, in his 96th year at Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe. Surrounded by his beloved family, Tom’s journey came to a close, leaving behind an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
Life and Legacy
A resident of Hilltop, Southpark, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, and a former resident of Clooneykearney, Ballintubber, Co. Roscommon, Thomas Flannery was more than just a name; he was a pillar of his community, respected and cherished by all. His enduring legacy lives on through the memories of those who loved him deeply.
Loss and Grief
Tom’s passing marks the loss of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is predeceased by his loving wife Margaret, children Tommy and Carol, and grandson Martin. He also said goodbye to his siblings Sean, Pat, Noel, Dorothy (O’Dowd), and Mary (Conway). Each of these connections contributed to the vibrant tapestry of Tom’s life, leaving a profound impact.
Deeply Loved and Continuously Remembered
Survived by his daughter Marie (Donlon, Southpark), sons-in-law Martin and Kevin, and daughter-in-law Eve, Tom was never short of familial love and support. He was further cherished by his grandsons Luke, Doreise, Keith, Eamon, Wayne, Christor, Elisha, and Jamie, as well as his adored 19 great-grandchildren. His love spread even wider, embracing nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbors, and friends who held him dear. His wisdom and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.
Celebrations of Life and Remembrance
The funeral mass for Thomas Flannery will be a significant event, celebrating his life and spreading his message of love, respect, and community. Reposing at Gaynor’s Funeral Home, Castlerea, on Friday evening from 5pm until 7pm with removal at 7:15pm to St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday at 11am, followed by burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
