The Mayor of Kazan announced today the opening of points for free sterilization and vaccination of homeless animals. First of all, they promise to cover urban settlements
“Relying exclusively on humane methods of treating animals, we must make Kazan a city without stray dogs,” Mayor Ilsur Metshin said at a meeting today.
According to him, it is planned to open points for free vaccination and sterilization of stray animals in the capital of the republic.
“Federal legislation and a limited budget, as well as ways of solving this issue, do not yet have the best practice in solving this issue, which would be based on humane principles of treating animals. Therefore, we made a decision to organize free stations for sterilization and vaccination of animals at the request of residents, ”Metshin said.
The work will begin with Kazan settlements, where, according to the mayor, the problem of neglected animals is most urgent. The working hours of the vaccination and sterilization points of dogs will be determined by the heads of the city districts, based on the appeals of citizens. “We want to prevent uncontrolled reproduction of stray animals. Each dog brings dozens of puppies a year, from which an army of stray dogs grows, ”the mayor said.
According to Metshin, it is planned to hold a round table in Kazan to develop a set of measures to solve the problem of stray animals, in addition to sterilization and vaccination.
