Igor Levit no longer wants to stream public concerts

Star pianist Igor Levit (34) will begin his time as so-called artist in residence in the Düsseldorf Tonhalle with a live stream concert. But it will be the last stream in a public space, said the artist in an online press conference on Tuesday.

“I don’t need streams anymore, I’m tired of them,” he explained. He will still broadcast concerts live from the private setting of his home, but no longer from a concert stage.

Levit broadcast many house concerts on Twitter during the Corona lockdown and thus reached a large audience. At the livestream concert in Düsseldorf on Thursday (May 6th) he will play pieces by Beethoven and Brahms.

Starting in November, the pianist will give eight concerts in various formats in the 2021/22 concert season in Düsseldorf. These include an afternoon concert moderated by cabaret artist Christian Ehring, as well as solo performances, symphony evenings and chamber music. The violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann is currently artist in residence in Düsseldorf. He will also perform in a streamed concert on May 28th.
