After a great match with the 11th racket of the world by Denis Shapovalow (Canada), Hubert Hurkacz had to face his compatriot Milos Raonic. The gentlemen in the ATP tournament played together for the first time.
The beginning of the match was good for Hurkacz. The Pole won his application easily, and then he had a good chance of breaking his opponent. However, he managed to defend his break points and then paid back the same. The Canadian broke the Pole, which later turned out to be the key moment in the first set.
The Wrocław player had his chance to lead to a draw, but Raonic defended himself well in the most important moments. “Hubi” did not fold his weapon quickly, because in the ninth game he defended the set ball and won the pass. The Canadian, however, later made no mistake and ended the game successfully 6: 4.
The second edition was also even. The beginning was quite quick, the tennis players used the service well. The Pole had a moment of weakness, but he did not let himself lose his own application. He performed phenomenally in the sixth game, when he made a break without losing the ball. In the end it was time to play set number three.
The gentlemen in the third party went head to head. They both played very good serving games. There was only one break point in ten games and it was saved anyway. In the end, there was a tie-break, which was started brilliantly by the Polish tennis player. Hurkacz came out at 3: 0, continued a good game and led to 6: 1. At that time, one ball separated the Pole from the quarter-finals. He wasted three match balls, but the third has already been won by him.
Hurkacz will play against the winner of the pair Sonego – Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals.
Hubert Hurkacz – Milos Raonic 4:6, 6:3, 7:6 (7:4)
