More than 700 residents of the Spanish island of La Palma have been told today that they have to leave their homes because of lava flows that are getting closer. In total, 6,700 of the 83,000 islanders have now been evacuated.
“The lava is slowly approaching. People still have time to take their documents, personal belongings and everything of value,” said Miguel Angel Morcuende, technical director of Pevolca, the agency that supervises the evacuations.
