The Moscow Sports Department holds informal meetings with experts to find the best practices to promote an active lifestyle. This time on “sports environments” they talked about what can be a decisive factor for regular classes with high school students and students.
“Without the Olympic system”
For the last 2-3 years, schools have been identified with a race for high scores in exams, and often the administration lets the sections and activities for the 11th grade drift. As a result, graduates abandon physical education (compulsory lessons do not count) or find clubs on their own. The analytical center NAFI interviewed 16-17-year-old Muscovites who continue to lead an active lifestyle. It turned out that 43% study in sections that work near their home, but do not belong to their educational institution. In the schools themselves, 32% of students train, and 25% go to train in other areas.
There is a similar story with institutes – of the students who know about the sports clubs of their university, only 29% are members of them. According to Olympic champion in figure skating Adelina Sotnikova, there is an explanation for this: “The majority understands – you need to devote yourself to study, priority is given to education, which directly affects future income. We have to argue from the standpoint of an “adult”.
“There must be an incentive for training,” I am sure member of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Rugby Federation, Chairman of the Moscow City Duma Commission on Security, Sports and Youth Policy Kirill Shchitov… – For example, the spirit of competition motivates to be in good shape all the time, so the competition should go on non-stop all year round. Moreover, they should not be carried out according to the Olympic system, when, if you lose, you turn from a participant into a spectator. You can make different divisions so that eliminated players and teams continue to fight for other awards and medals. “
When the stadium is near
Sports journalist of the TV channel “Match! Country”, Lecturer at RANEPA Emma Gadzhieva believes that the infrastructure of the university is of decisive importance: “If training takes place on the territory of the university or very close, this is one story. But if you need to go somewhere else, there will be few people willing. Many students already spend two hours on the way to the university ”. According to sports agent in figure skating Maria Shashina, with a competent approach, many problems can be solved: “Entering a university requires adaptation both at the level of habits and at the level of psychology. For many, it is easier to give up sports than to build it into a new schedule. Of course, the environment will play a big role. If the university has a sports community, additional incentives are created (for example, an increased scholarship for those who show results at the level of interuniversity starts), then this gap can be painlessly narrowed. It is necessary to regularly remind adolescents that sport is not only beauty and health, but also often a guarantee of self-confidence. ”
Among the ideas proposed by experts, it is worth highlighting the following: all-season playgrounds for currently popular sports (so that it is a party place, not just a training address) and a single Internet resource that will collect up-to-date information about all the sports opportunities of universities. And, of course, we need events where it is interesting to come both for the sake of competitions, and to take a walk with friends and chat with idols. “Mass sports should be packed with high quality,” I am sure Executive Director of the Student Basketball Association, Executive Director Sergey Kryukov.
