Do you regularly stand in the kitchen and notice that you have again cooked far too much or too little rice? You are not alone in this.

In order to find the right amount of rice, it is not only your appetite that is decisive, but also whether the rice should be served as a side dish or as a main course. Does it come with meat, vegetables or a filling sauce? We have an overview for you:

Risotto is usually served as a main course because it is very filling. If the risotto contains a lot of vegetables or other ingredients, you can of course reduce the amount of rice.

Maki, Nigiri, California Roll: Homemade sushi is a very special treat. How much sushi rice you need depends on how thick you fill the rolls. For a sushi roll you need about 50 to 75 grams of sushi rice. You can cut around 6 to 8 makis from a roll.

If you want to eat sushi as a main course, you can expect around 150 grams of sushi rice per person. This gives you 2-3 maki rolls and up to 6 nigiris, i.e. up to 30 canapés.

Another difficulty in cooking rice: finding the right amount of water. The amount required depends on the type of rice and of course the amount of rice. With basmati rice, for example, you should use 1.5 times the amount of water. So if you want to cook 100 grams of rice, use 150 grams of water.
