Newsletter delivery week has arrived and many students outstanding that they applied in the contest of scholarships During 2020 and 2021, in the first quarter of face-to-face classes, they have brought failure, this worries teachers and further certifies their hypothesis.
Parents helped their children during the virtual classes to pass the different subjects with good grades, as stated by Humberto Montero, president of the National Federation of Panamanian teachers (FENATEP).
The leader points out that the outstanding scholarship contests have increased in recent years because some parents did their children’s homework without taking into account that they would soon return to face-to-face classes, thus taking advantage of enrolling them in the national scholarship contest. .
The 6 teachers’ unions that are part of the federation noted that in the first quarter many of the students with academic scholarships lowered their ratingsthe teachers observed, in particular, primary school students with scholarships had problems with reading and writing, however, when seeing their grades virtually, they were outstanding.
Education begins at home, the value of honesty is important, by not allowing their children to make mistakes and doing their homework to have excellent grades, they create children with deceitful behavior, underlines the leader Montero, highlighting that teachers have been pressured by parents so that they do not fail their children, this produces emotional and psychological wear and tear on teachers, many show anxiety and stress.
FENATEP considers that the Institute for the Training and Use of Human Resources (IFARHU) made a mistake by giving the scholarships they gave during 2020 and 2021 to outstanding students because the foundations were not solid, they argue that it had to be taken into account account a review of grades from past years.
Previously, the director of IFARHU, Bernardo Meneses, declared that, in 2019, a total of 35,000 students benefited from competition scholarships, distinguished positions, sports and culture; by 2020, the total was 70,000.
