Several Houston-based companies have been recognized for their outstanding workplaces in the latest “U.S. News Best Companies to work For” report.


The 2025 edition of the “U.S. News Best Companies to Work for” report has spotlighted numerous public and private organizations in Houston as leading employers. The annual evaluation by U.S. News and World Report assesses thousands of companies globally, identifying those that excel in areas such as work-life balance, compensation, job security, and career advancement opportunities. The recognized companies were selected based on complete reader surveys and publicly available data.

For the 2025-2026 rankings, U.S.News broadened its methodology to encompass privately held firms and those offering internships.The listings were also categorized by job type and industry, with a new list specifically recognizing “employers that are particularly amiable to employees who are also caregivers in their personal lives.”

Seven publicly traded and four privately held companies in Houston made it onto the various lists.

Top Houston Employers in 2025

Chevron, a major oil and gas corporation, was recognized as a top public employer in Houston. With over 45,000 employees and meaningful annual revenue, Chevron received high marks for job stability, workplace culture, and compensation. The company also appeared on the “Best in energy and Resources,” “Best Companies in the South,” and “Best for Internships” lists.

Among privately held companies,the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) was distinguished for its work-life balance,job security,and pay. U.S. news estimates that ABS employs between 5,000 and 10,000 people and generates considerable annual revenue.

The American Bureau of Shipping, founded in 1862, describes itself as “a global leader in providing classification services for marine and offshore assets.”

“Our mission is to serve the public interest as well as the needs of our members and clients by promoting the security of life and property and preserving the natural environment,” the company website says.

Along with the overall “Best Companies” list, ABS was also included in the “Best in Engineering and Construction” list.

“Best’ is a subjective term relative to career satisfaction, and many aspects factor into someone’s decision to apply for a job with any given company.”

30 Texas-based employers were featured on the U.S. News’ 2025-2026 “Best Places to Work For” lists. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth each had 11 companies on the list. Diamondback Energy in Midland was the only West Texas company recognized.
