In 1988, the popular TV series “Home and Away” came on the screen. With a total of 34 seasons and a wild 7619 episodes, the series goes down in the history books as one of the longest-running TV series of all time.
In the TV series, viewers have been able to follow the everyday life of the inhabitants of the Australian coastal village of Summer Bay, which offers, among other things, intrigue, romance and drama.
But many of the actors in the Australian series have suffered a tragic fate.
This week it became known that actor Dieter Brummer, who had the role of Shane Parrish from 1991 to 1996, is dead. He appeared in a total of 557 episodes.
Found dead at home
It was The Sydney Morning Herald who reported that Brummer had passed away, 45 years old. The cause of death is currently unknown
A dead man was found inside the home. The death is not considered suspicious. A report will be prepared for forensic medicine, a police source told TV Tonight.
A spokesman for the TV channel Channel 7, which has the rights to “Home and Away”, also told the Sydney newspaper that Brummer was a beloved member of the series, and that he had fans all over the world.
– “Home and Away” and Channel 7 think it is very sad to hear about Dieter Brummer’s passing. He was a much-loved “Home and Away” actor, and was hailed by Australian and international viewers for his award-winning portrait of Shane Parrish.
In 2018, several “Home and Away” fans mourned the death of actress Cornelia Frances, or Morag Bellingham, as she was called in the series.
From the start in 1988 until 2016, she was one of the regular actors in the hit series. In 2017, she was diagnosed with bladder cancer.
In May, just over three years ago, she died, to the great sorrow and shock of the fans. She turned 77 years old. Frances’s death was one of several “Home and Away” deaths at the time.
Was only 29 years old
In January of the same year, the actress Jessica Falkholt also died in hospital – as a result of a serious car accident. She was only 29 years old.
The actor, who played the role of Hope Morrison, was involved in a fatal car accident in New South Wales, Australia on Christmas Day 2 in 2018.
According to the BBC, the parents of Jessica, Lars and Vivian, lost their lives momentarily in the tragic car accident. The actress’ younger sister, Annabelle, also died – but in hospital three days later.
In June this year, the investigation showed that the driver of the car that came over in the opposite lane and took the lives of the four family members, was under the influence of strong, prescription drugs. It reported the Australian newspaper Brisbane Times.
The 51-year-old driver of the car, Craig Whitall, had previously visited two different hospitals and wrongly explained that he did not have enough methadone (an artificially produced drug with a morphine-like effect, journ.anm.) To get through Christmas. Employees described his behavior as “scary.”
On the morning of the second day of Christmas, Whitall is said to have received four diazepam-type tablets (anxiolytic, muscle-relaxing and sleep-inducing medicine, journ.anm ..), while the doctor clearly explained to him that he should not take them all at once.
Investigators see it as likely that he took more than one tablet of the heavy medication, which can have a sedative effect within 30 to 60 minutes. At 10.42 he collided with the Falkholt family. Nor did Craig Whitall’s life be saved in the fatal accident.
In January 2019, there was another death message about an actor from «Home and Away». Australian model and actress Annalize Braakensiek was found dead in her own home. According to The Guardian, she was found by local police after a report of concern.
Braakensiek turned 46 years old.
Even though the actor only appeared in a couple of episodes, the death still shook several “Home and Away” fans, who quickly took to social media to share their condolences.
The police had no suspicion that anything criminal had happened. According to Australian News, the 46-year-old has struggled with depression over a long period of time, as a result of having lost several of his loved ones.
In 2019, the former “Home and Away” star Ben Unwin was also found dead, but the police were quick to say that they did not suspect that anything criminal had happened. He turned 41 years old.
As if deaths are not enough, mysterious diseases have also affected several of the actors from the famous TV series.
Among them is Johnny Ruffo (33), who in August 2017 went to the hospital for what he thought was a migraine attack. When he arrived at the hospital, it turned out that the condition was going to be far more serious.
Ruffo’s management, CMC Talent, confirmed to Yahoo at the time that the actor had to undergo urgent surgery shortly after a medical check-up. There it was found that he had a brain tumor.
– Puts things in perspective
On his own Instagram profile, the 33-year-old shared photos of himself after the operation. The pictures showed, among other things, the stitches in his head as a result of the operation, and Ruffo sitting in a hospital bed.
“Some things in life really put things in perspective. Hoping for a positive result. Keep me in mind. Kiss », he wrote to the picture.
Ruffo participated in the series for three years, from 2013 to 2016.
Three years before Ruffo’s illness made headlines in the international media, it was actress Tessa James (30) who put out the fans, when she revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer, only 23 years old.
James, who is known for his role as Nicole Franklin, was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2014. After treatment, James is symptom-free.
But it’s not just actors from the popular TV series who have passed away. Earlier this year, it became known that the series’ director John Clabburn was dead – after an accident in his own garden. He turned 52 years old.
According to Australian News, the director trimmed a hedge in the family’s garden in a suburb north of Sydney when the accident occurred.
With a newly purchased chainsaw, he cut his hand and fell three meters down from the ladder he was standing on. It was his wife, Melissa Clabburn (56), who discovered him lying on the ground after the accident. The couple met during the filming of the TV series “Heartland” from 1994, and were married for 24 years.
“I fetched towels to stop the bleeding, but it would not stop,” she said, according to the channel.
The 52-year-old was rushed to hospital shortly afterwards, after being stabilized by ambulance workers. By then he had already lost a lot of blood. He died later that night of cardiac arrest.
