Martin Kaae Kristiansen took different videos or three types of creatures from the start of this year to show how they could potentially slithering around the sheets nibbling your dead skin cells and food particles.

Among them were silverfish, dust mites and booklouse, which crawl in the dark corners of your bedroom, laying eggs and potentially carrying allergies.

No bigger than the size of an apple seed, the critters often hide in bed frames, mattresses, clothes and furniture.

Although visible to the naked eye, they are hard to spot because they don't want to be seen. They're evasive and good at hiding in cracks and crevices.

Martin's footage shows the tiny and almost transparent creatures as they make their way through dust particles in search for food sources.

According to Mr Kristiansen, the video 'proves that you never sleep alone, and no matter how clean you think you are, all sorts of bugs will creep around your sheets at night time'.

"All of the samples in the video are from my own bedroom, and despite how it may look, we live as clean as any other normal family does," he said.

'The bugs are caught with a vacuum cleaner with a coffee filter in the front.

'They are viewed with my microscope and filmed with my iPhone strapped to the microscope with wire. So, one or all of the bugs in the video should be present in all household. '

Although they might crawl around the bed at night, these bugs cannot be confused with bed bugs, reddish-brown creatures that feed on human blood and cause itchy bites in the skin.

Bed bugs aren't dangerous and they don't spread any number of adverse health effects may result from bed bug bites including skin rashes and allergic symptoms.

Their color varies between dark yellow, red or brown and they live in cracks and crevasses in and around beds.

Despite their name, they will infest any area which will allow them to feed. Typically, they crawl out at night and bite exposed skin.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS THAT THERE ARE BED BUGS IN YOUR ROOM?

Signs of a bedbug infestation could include:

  • Small bugs or tiny white eggs in the crevices and joints of your mattress and furniture.
  • Bites on your skin.
  • Tiny black spots on your mattress – this could be their three poo mottled bedbug shells.
  • Blood spots on your sheets – this can occur if you squash a bug after it has been fed an unpleasant, musty scent in your bedroom.
  • They tend to prefer fabric or wood about plastic and metal, and often hide near to where you sleep.
  • Even though bed bugs are parasites and can carry bacteria, they've never actually been known to spread disease
  • They do, however, give itchy bites and cause allergic reactions in people who are sensitive to their bite — not to mention the fact that they're a general nuisance.
