The Cornish day center helps dementia patients to dance | West Country

A day center near Camborne is facing loneliness and keeping patients active by hosting themed events to trigger memories and help customers live longer well.

Reflections, a day care center in Tuckingmill, specializes in supporting people with dementia and memory loss, while providing a daytime break for carers.

Patients with dementia are brought to the center from all over Cornwall for a day of singing, dancing and reminiscence.

Jennifer Jenkins, head of Reflections Day Center, said: "We do several days brightened up throughout the year.

"Most people would be sitting at home, perhaps not seeing anyone all day, but when they are here they are surrounded by people and they get up and move."

A patient at the center told ITV News that the events make her feel a lot less isolated.

It's important for me to go out and meet other people because I can be very lonely, and there are many people who are alone and can't go out, and they don't know about places like this.

– Margaret Cook, customer of the day center

In addition to helping people with dementia and memory problems, the center gives respite to family carers.
