Silver Alert canceled to miss the man of Mesa with dementia

PHOENIX – A Silver Alert was canceled Tuesday afternoon after an elderly Mesa man with dementia disappeared.

Mesa police said that 83-year-old Dennis Downey returned home safe and sound at 4pm.

Downey was seen for the last time at 9:30 am, when he left his home near the streets of Ellsworth and Baseline, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

He was going to the Mountain Vista Medical Center at Southern Avenue and Crismon Road to have the points taken off his head after a fall a few days before.

Downey was driving a red 2014 Nissan Rogue with BGS6878 license plate and wearing a gray shirt with gray pants and black glasses.

He is 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds and has green eyes and gray hair.

Anyone who had information about his location was invited to call the Missing Police Unit of the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211 or 480-349-1880.
