Door distributor JB Kind is throwing its weight behind a charity that provides support for families affected by dementia.
Its purpose is to help bring a specialist nursing service to their county of Derbyshire for the first time.
The company of 55 employees of Swadlincote, Derbyshire, has a solid experience in charitable fundraising and will now invest its efforts to raise more vital funds for Dementia UK for the next two years.
After collecting nearly £ 8,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support during its previous two-year charity campaign, with a series of initiatives ranging from a highly successful charity golf day to a ten-mile journey where employees brought the own doors, all the staff at I JB Kind are eager to come up with other great fundraising ideas.
The campaign is driven by JB Kind's support for one of Dementia UK's "Admiral Nurses" and the belief that Derbyshire should no longer lose this exceptional service. Across the UK, Admiral Nurses of Dementia UK provides specialist support, guidance and practical solutions for families with a member who has dementia and support and counseling for health professionals working alongside dementia patients – however, Derbyshire does not have an admiral nurse and JB Kind's managing director, James Cadman, believes that the county's families are disadvantaged because of this.
He said: "With more than one million people diagnosed with dementia in 2021, it is a disease that is at the top of our local community's and health professionals' agenda.
"If you need specialist support in Derbyshire, the nearest Admiral nurse is available to staff and students at De Montfort University in Leicester or is a nurse in the city of Stoke-on- Trent, none of which is practical for Derbyshire patients and families.
"Having heard moving testimonies from families who have benefited from the support of an admiral nurse to help them cope with the challenges a dementia diagnosis can bring, we would like our support for the charity could also inspire others to leave behind, so that this invaluable service could be provided locally.
"Dementia affects so many of us and can be a cruel disease when a patient starts not recognizing loved ones. We would like to encourage people and companies to consider supporting Dementia UK in any way possible.
"At JB Kind we really feel that it is our duty to give back to our community and we have a solid experience in doing so. We are proud to support this extremely useful charity for the next two years."
Dr. Hilda Hayo, Chief Admiral Nurse and CEO of Dementia UK, added: "We are excited to know that JB Kind Doors will support us throughout 2019-20.
"Thanks to this support, our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses will be able to provide their compassionate and competent support to even more families, providing them with the tools and practical advice to face the most difficult challenges that dementia brings" .
