In an emotional update to her followers, Gogglebox Australia’s Isabelle Silbery has shared a harrowing tale of a horse-riding accident that left her with a spinal injury in Fiji. The 38-year-old actress and TV star details her close brush with danger and the supportive community that helped her through the ordeal.
The Accident and Immediate Response
Silbery disclosed on Instagram that she was involved in a severe horse-riding incident during a holiday in Fiji. The experience was both terrifying and painful, and she found herself in a remote location with limited medical resources. “Turns out being on a remote island is bloody scary when you have a horse riding accident, are in immense pain & don’t know how serious things are!😫🐎😭,” she wrote.
In a remarkable display of community spirit, local Fijians rushed to her aid. They carried her on a stretcher up a 2-kilometer hill under scorching heat. Silbery was moved to tears as she recalled, “They were all barefoot in the scorching heat, holding my hand & reassuring me I would be ok. They had a doctor on call and loaded me up with pain relief to get me through the night, even sitting on the beachfront outside the hut to make sure I didn’t need anything.”
Medical Evacuation and Recovery
A medical evacuation helicopter, only available during daylight hours, eventually arrived. Silbery was promptly airlifted to the mainland for further evaluation. Diagnostic scans confirmed that she had fractured her spine. “One inch in either direction and my life could’ve looked very different today,” she reflected on the severity of her condition.
After the harrowing ordeal, Silbery returned home to Australia with a significant medical bill. This led her to warn her followers about the importance of travel insurance. “These people were absolute angels. Not to mention my husband who helped me wee into a glass … the kind of commitment that we’re not in our vows. We were choppered to the mainland for scans confirming I’d fractured my spine. I’m home safely with a very large bill so a PSA to check your travel insurance as ours conveniently didn’t cover most activities you would do on a holiday, including kayaking, snorkeling, bike riding, and of course… horse riding,” she concluded.
Gogglebox Departure: End of an Era
The accident highlighted another recent development for Silbery—her departure from Gogglebox in 2025. She announced on Instagram that she, her grandmother Emmie, and daughter Ruby will no longer be returning to the beloved show. “It’s with a very heavy heart to announce that Mum, Ruby and I will not be returning to Gogglebox in 2025 🥺💔 Foxtel have decided not to renew our beloved show and although the show will continue on Channel 10, the three of us have not been included in its new form,” she wrote.
Legacy and New Beginnings
Silbery expressed gratitude for the love and support she received throughout her time on the show. “It has been an absolute pleasure sharing our lounge rooms with you all and cannot thank you enough for the love and support. It might be the end of an era but it’s also an opportunity for new exciting beginnings…” she noted.
