The fourth edition of the cycling festival Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona Bike Show, to be held from May 29 to May 31, has been postponed as a result of the health crisis caused by COVID-19. The organization has announced that it will be postponed until autumn and will be held this weekend from 25 to 27 September 2020, in Girona and the Costa Brava.
This decision was made two months before the expected date, due to reasons beyond the organization’s control, due to the circumstances of the spread of COVID-19 and the uncertainty currently causing such a massive scenario as Sea Otter Europe. The 2019 edition closed with a balance of more than 60,000 visitors, 400 exhibiting brands and 6,100 cyclists in the different races, a volume of people that today makes it difficult to manage with the maximum guarantees of health and safety.
At the same time, many of the brands in the cycling industry present at this international festival, as well as most of their visitors are foreigners. The organizers also emphasized that “the worldwide virus impact is so global that to generate their displacement, at the same time as complicated, would be irresponsibility with the priority objective of stopping the spread of the pandemic. This, in addition to the decreed alarm status and the restrictive measures in place, does not indicate that the event can be celebrated at the end of May with all the guarantees. “
