Georgetown University Track & Field Shatters School Records at Terrier DMR Challenge
WASHINGTON – Georgetown University’s track and field program concluded its competitive season on February 21 in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Terrier DMR Challenge. The event saw both the men’s and women’s distance medley relay teams achieve remarkable feats, breaking the university’s longstanding records.
Men’s Team Claims Top Honors
The Georgetown men’s team showcased exceptional performance in the distance medley relay, securing a time of 9:19.24. This result not only shattered the school record but also placed them among the fastest in Georgetown’s storied history. The relay team consisted of Tinoda Matsatsa, Jaden Marchen, Gabriele Angiono, and Abel Teffra. Their precision and teamwork were instrumental in achieving this incredible milestone.
Women’s Team Demonstrates Strength and Strategy
Similar to the men’s team, the women’s relay showcased exceptional skill and strategic decision-making, contributing to a strong performance. Each runner on the women’s team executed their segment with poise and determination, solidifying a high-place finish and establishing a new school record. Assistant Coach Mitchell Baker highlighted their impressive efforts, noting that the women’s team will be well-prepared for the NCAA championships if they secure a qualifying spot.
“The women put together a very well-run relay: each made poised, critical, and competitive decisions. They needed every one of those moments against such a strong field, and if the results of those efforts – a high place today and a large school record – holds up to qualify for the NCAA meet then they’ll be as prepared as can be to compete on that stage.”
Qualifications for NCAA Championships
While the goal was to break the school records, the overarching objective was to qualify for the NCAA championships. Assistant Coach Brandon Bonsey expressed confidence in his team’s performance and readiness for the next challenge. He noted that the team executed exceptionally well, and every leg of the relay contributed to a successful outcome. Bonsey praised the team’s efforts: “I thought all 4 legs executed really well. That’s really all you can ask for on a relay. It was nice to get the school record but our main objective was to run a time that will qualify us for the NCAA meet. Hopefully we did enough to get that done. Assuming we qualify, I am very confident we will line up a very competitive team at the NCAA meet.”
