Ernest galenieks, known professionally as Galeniex, is set to perform at the Beyond Borders minifestival in Tallinn’s vibrant Street Quarter on April 11th. The festival will also feature other emerging talents, including Vultura, the “Debutant of the Year” for 2023, promising a dynamic showcase of new musical voices.
“Vernisage”: An Exploration of Sound and Self
Galeniex’s “vernisage” is a collection of twelve tracks described as an experimental hip-hop journey. The album delves into themes of introspection, societal observation, and subcultural exploration through deep poetry. Created between 2022 and 2024, primarily at Eternal World Studio with producer Pre’Set, the album also features contributions from Galeniex’s home studio.
the album navigates a spectrum of sounds and motifs, reflecting on past experiences, the conflict between progression and regression, and the tension between intellect and ego. The lyrical ‘EU’ aims to challenge genre conventions, embracing music as a pure form of artistic expression rather than a limitation.Galeniex
lyrical Prowess and Musical Nuance
Galeniex’s strength lies in his lyrical ability, capable of crafting compelling poetry suitable for both stage performance and in-depth listening. Each track on “Vernisage” showcases interesting musical nuances that reward attentive ears. While some listeners may detect similarities to the established Latvian hip-hop artist Wiesulis, particularly in tracks like “Low Start,” Galeniex distinguishes himself through unique compositions such as the drum’n’bass-infused “Skin Too Close” and the jazz-punk inspired pieces. His clear diction and precise delivery further enhance the impact of his lyrics, solidifying his position as a wordsmith in the hip-hop scene.
Collaborative Production and Key Contributors
The instrumental landscape of “Vernisage” is shaped by a diverse group of producers, including PrMXVC (Jānis Arnītis), Merkurius (Mick Axel Apermanis), PTCH_BLCK (Emil Jansons), Reinis Žodžiks from the group “Aleja,” and Sangvn (Jurģis Gundars), among other emerging talents. Sangvn’s involvement is particularly noteworthy, given his established partnership with Wiesulis and his long-standing collaboration with Galeniex.
Background and Previous Work
galeniex has been active in the “Clinic Records” scene for several years, releasing singles such as “The Court of justice” and “Hands Off,” as well as the collaborative track “Rupat in Leaver” with Wiesulis and Sangvn. he also appeared on the 2024 album “En Prise” by this tandem, contributing to the song “213.” Galeniex has frequently performed alongside Wiesulis, including serving as the opening act for the Latvian hip-hop artist’s show at Palladium last year, exposing him to a large audience. While his performance at that concert may have been perceived as somewhat tentative, it served as a prelude to his current rise.
