The purpose of the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship, established in 2006, is to promote the development of international student education in Shanghai and to attract outstanding international students and scholars to East China Normal University ( ECNU).
This scholarship is available for outstanding international students who wish to pursue undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degree programs at ECNU.
Those applying for the undergraduate program must have a minimum of HSK-3 level Chinese proficiency, or they can opt for a one-year pre-college program (with an application deadline of May 10) to study Chinese with a full scholarship.
If the candidate is not able to reach the qualified HSK level after completing the pre-university program, he will graduate as a language student.

Fully Funded Shanghai Government Scholarship 2023-24 in China. is available to undertake bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral level programs at East China Normal University.

Scholarship Benefits:
1) Type A (full scholarship)
Exempt from tuition fees and on-campus accommodation; provide comprehensive medical insurance and monthly living expenses (PhD program: CNY3500; Postgraduate program: CNY3000; Undergraduate program: CNY2500)
2) Type B (partial scholarship)
Exempt from tuition fees and provide comprehensive medical insurance.
Eligible Nationalities:
This scholarship is open to international students.
Eligibility criteria :
1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health.
2) Training and age limit:
Applicants to the college preparatory program must have a high school diploma and be under the age of 23.
Candidates for the bachelor’s program must have a high school diploma and be under the age of 25.
Applicants for the master’s program must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
Applicants for the doctoral program must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
3) Students who have won the Chinese government scholarship or any other scholarship offered by other organizations are not allowed to apply for SGS.
