The level of excise duties on beer, wine, alcohol and fuels will increase again from January 1, 2026, for the second time in the last six months, according to the Fiscal Code.
Thus, the excise tax on beer increases to 5.83 lei/hl Plato grade, from 5.30 lei, for still wines to 11 lei/hl, from 10 lei, and for sparkling wines to 83.81 lei, from 76.19 lei.
For ethyl alcohol, the excise duty is increased to 5,848.49 lei/hl of pure alcohol (2,924.23 lei for alcohol produced in small distilleries), from 5,316.81 (2,658.39 for small distilleries). This would mean an increase in price by about 2.6 lei per liter of alcoholic drink.
And cigarettes will be more expensive, because tobacco excise taxes will be increased starting from the first day of 2026. A pack of cigarettes will cost approximately 3.8 lei more.

For leaded gasoline, the excise duty rises to 3,598.98/1000 liters, from 3,271.80 lei, and for unleaded to 3,059.80, from 2,781.64.
In the case of diesel, the excise duty is increased to 2,804.29/1000 liters, from 2,549.35 lei at present.
At the pump, fuels will cost about 3.3 – 3.8% more, which means that a full tank will cost 12 – 14 lei more for a full tank.
